Witches-I am new at this, and I am trying to find out if my cat is my familiar?

His name is Lucius and he is a Maine Coon. He is so beautiful and he treats me like I am his mother. We talk to each other often (sounds weird), and he follows me everywhere, even to the bus stop in the morning and afternoon for my son. He doesn't sit in my lap, which most maine coons don't do, but sits near or next to me always. I am not practicing and haven't since I was young, so I have no idea what I am doing anymore!
